This was a deviation from our normal course of business specializing in Japanese engines. Ford 6.4 ltr diesel Power Stroke engine for Ford F250, F350, F450 has been a winner for us. Every year since 2013 our sales of Re-manufactured engines has gone up reaching an all time high of 40% of our total engine sales in 2016. About Ford 6.4 ltr Power Stroke diesel engines:

The 6.4 ltr Ford Power Stroke engine was introduced in 2008 for Ford F250, F350 & F450 trucks. This engine was built by Ford to compensate for shortcomings of Ford 6.0 ltr engine. Ford 6.4 was built to comply with stricter emission laws and was supposed to be quieter and cleaner. This engine has dual Turbo chargers. This was the first Power Stroke engine with diesel particulate filter known as "DPF" which supposed to be more effective to eliminate emissions.

Ford 6.4 ltr engine came in till 2010 which was replaced by Ford 6.7 ltr engine. This engine had a DPS system which which was not proved to be effective for fuel economy.

The engine had 19 mm bore & 105 mm stroke with a total displacement of 6.3 Ltr. This engine had higher torque of 650 lb.ft and higher hp of 350 hp. Horse power and Torque was close to 3000 rpm and 2000 rpm. It had a newer turbo system where air enters into low pressure Turbo and fed into high pressure Turbo which is then directed into intercooler. This is called "compound VGT Turbo"

This was designed to reduce Turbo lag upon acceleration & provide better throttle response which makes power flow more like naturally aspirated engine. The DPF and EGR cooler considerably reduces exhaust gases. DPF was designed to trap soot and particulates from exhaust and eliminates black smoke.

1996 - 2000 Honda Civic engines were similar to the previous generation with some minor changes. All these engines had oil dip stick on Oil pump instead of in the center of the manifold just like on older 88-95 models of Honda Civic & Honda CRX. In Japan these engines come from EK grade Honda Civics. This is the 6th gen. Honda Civic engine. In USA engines were different for EX, HX & LX/DX. Honda Civic engine for LX & DX grades were non vtec Sohc motors & HX & EX were sohc vtec motors, that received D16Y8 engine. The non vtec motors were called D16Y7. HX motor vas D16Y5 VTEC-E motors. The SI grade Honda Civic motors were performance grade DOHC VTEC engines with B16A2 motors which are very famous around the world.

Although in Japan these motors were 1.5 ltr as well as 1.6 ltr. Japanese D15B Vtec & Non vtec engines fit American D16Y7 & D16Y8 motors also. The only difference is that some of these engines from Japan have 17 mm crank bolt and some have 19mm crank bolt, whereas US motors had 17 mm crank bolt.

6th gen Honda Civic was also very famous in Latin America and there is a shortage of these Civic Motors in such countries. The best & the most feasible option for these Honda Civic motors is the ones from Japan because Japanese people don't drive more than 5 years and average mileage on these is about 40,000-50,000 miles.

_{Launched in 1973, Honda Civic now produces its ninth generation of cars. The eight generation (2006-2011) saw the civic in coupe and sedan body designs. There was the usual DX, well-quipped LX, well-heeled EX, leather-accentuated EX-L, muscular Si, cost-saving Hybrid and GX trims. Excluding Si, all models has a 1.8-liter, 140-hp four-cylinder engine couple with five-speed manual transmission. We all know the basic formula, scarcity leads to increase in demand which in turn increases the selling price. This is the trend now. Most vendors in USA who sell engines complain of depleted inventory of Used Honda Motors. The only solution is to get the ones imported from Japan but the issue is that there are less people doing this business because this business requires huge inventory, thus greater requirement for capital. There are very few companies who have the holding capacity because of limited capital availabiltiy.

We all know Used Honda Engines are in demand, market price of these engines go up every six months as the demand goes up. We have been tracking prices of some of the key engines. For example if you look at 1988-1995 Honda Civic engines & Honda CRX engines, D15B, ZC SOHC or D15B V.T.E.C replacement for USDM D16Z6 prices have almost doubled in last five years.

D15B/ ZC Sohc was selling for around $450-500 five years back and these days because of shortage and increased demand they are being sold for around $800-850 in 2012. The reason being US salvage yards don't even have a scrap i.e a core motor for this because they are have totally disappeared ! The only option left is to import from Japan but the limitation is that there are very few importers in this country as JDM Honda Engines are not easy to get, especially the famous ones because Japan exports engines to all over the world.

Used Honda Motors from Japan is one and only best bet and the only option for any Honda owner because they are the only feasible option due to their quality, as Japanese culture of driving only on weekends is conducive towards availability of Used vehicles in perfect condition to be sold or exported as a complete used car or can be dismantled for parts. Average mileage on these Honda Motors is around 40-50K which is almost nothing because if taken care of, Honda motors can run up to 500,000 miles.

How to install our Japanese engines

We strive to import low mileage engines from Japan but it is impertive for all our customers to ensure all wear and tear components are brand new in order for the engine to run smoothly. Wear and tear components are known as maintenance components. Following is a list of wear and tear components:

- Air filter
- Oil Filter
- Thermostat

We recommend installing new maintenance components mentioned above in order to keep our warranty valid. If engine has thermo-sensor then it must be replaced from old engine. In case of rebuilt engine replacing with new timing kit is recommended. As far as radiator is concerned we recommend buying a new radiator if it has never been replaced otherwise extensive rod-out service at a radiator shop is required.

Engines run your vehicle and without an engine your vehicle has no value. If the engine or transmission of your vehicle breaks down the car loses its value until it is fixed. This leaves you with 2 options; either buy a new vehicle and get rid of the one that has bad motor or buy a new engine. As far as cost effectiveness is concerned the least out-of-pocket expense is when you buy a good used engine for your vehicle...provided you find one. Another engine plus installation may cost you around $2000 but another vehicle with decent mileage around 40,000-50,000 will cost you over and above $7000. So one thing is clear that least out-of-pocket expense is in buying another motor.

Now lets look at our culture on the road. In the U.S everyone drives around 40-50k each year so a 2000 model vehicle will have more than 200,000 miles...logically speaking. In Japan the story is totally different. Japanese people have no option but to resort to another vehicle because transportation laws are so expensive that registration becomes costly due to shaken inspection fee etc as the car becomes older. It is cheaper to commute in subways, bullet trains and other public transport in Japan because Japan is very well connected so it makes sense to go to work using public transport. This is the reason why Japanese shun their vehicles on weekdays and drive mostly on weekends. Also parking is so expensive in Japan. One needs to have a parking permit before buying a new car in Japan. All this forces Japanese people to get rid of their vehicles withing 4-5 years. In Japan their are no salvage yards but Government controlled exporters who can export complete used vehicles and also parts.

We all know that engines imported from Japan for ACURA, HONDA, TOYOTA, NISSAN, MAZDA, MITSUBISHI, LEXUS, SUBARU, SUZUKI & SCION are better in quality & have lowest mileage but the biggest problem is they are very difficult to come by. There are only one or two importers in this country, rest all are small franchises. There are many disnonest junk yards who misrepresent their junk yard quality to motors as JDM engines, so what should the consumer do ?

In order to help the consumer we recommend taking following steps to ensure they are actually buying Used Japanese engines :

1. Search on Bing for Japanese engines or Used Japanese Engines and you will get a list of importers. The reason why we did not mention Google because a genuine importer's website may not be on top on Google because it is hard to rank on Google organic rankings. Sponsored listings on the side are paid listings which are very expensive.

2. Ask the vendor to prove the engine is from Japan. You can ask him to provide US customs documents to prove this. Many will deny to provide this, you know what to do then.

3.Make sure even if the engine is from Japan it is fully tested. Engine World in Houston is the only one who does that. Engine must be Compression, Leak down & oil pressure tested. It is from Japan but doesn't mean that Japan has a magic wand. Check how long the vendor has been in business.

4. Make sure Engine comes with minimum 6 months warranty. 99% of the franchises who are not importers sell with 30 days or 90 days warranty because they don't test and do not have confidence in their motors. You should buy from a direct importer who gives minimum 6 months warranty. These big importers have customer service department. Most engine businesses & Junk yards don't have any customer service department.

All these measures will help you get better value for money. In the end you get what you pay for ! If you remember and follow above suggestions your engine will last longer and will provide a greater bang for your money spent. Good luck in your search !

An ENGINE is the driving force of any vehicle. It is the heart and soul of any vehicle. When your engine lets you down, buying it from a junk is not the best option. There are only three options available to you:

- buy a the cheapest but lowest quality, non tested engine from a Junk yard with basic 30 days warranty

- buy from a Japanese importer who tests everything & gives around 6 months warranty

- or find a used car to replace your current one.

I would say any prudent person would go with the second option because it gives you good value for money. Makes no sense to spend even 50% less and gift the money to a junk yard because they don't test anything at all. In USA people drive around 40,000 miles on an average so these engines will from junk yard will have around 150 to 200k miles.

Japanese Importers lay greater emphasis on quality of the motor. First of all these are low mileage engines from Japan, second of all, precautions are taken to check every mechanical aspect of the engine. Many check compression, leak down & oil pressure.

We recommend you should also find Japanese Engines from a vendor who has been doing this for long, who has a good reputation because people who have been doing business for around 10 years are serious.

It does not make sense to buy a used engine for cheap and feel happy, the truth comes out after it is installed or while it is being installed. Most vehicles in USA are crashed from front which Junk Yards buy from salvage auctions, what if engine actually has low mileage but while installation you discover a small piece of power steering bracket, AC compressor bracket or even block is cracked. It evidently happens very often because Junk Yards / salvage yards don't bother to check at all. In this case you will have to pay for installation to a mechanic and then also pay to pull it out.

Therefore we recommend this is not worth it. We recommend everyone should just shun junk yards and focus on quality, return on investment and buy low mileage used engines that are fully tested by serious importers because Junk yards can't even afford to test or inspect like they do.

The last option we would like to consider would be replacing the vehicle with new or used car. Well.. when money is tight then this is the biggest out-of-pocket expense because any used car with fair amount low mileage, around 50k will cost around 7000-8000k.Therefore spending money carefully and buying from a Japanese importer is the best option.

Most people will definitely agree with us.

Everyone is now buying low mileage Japanese-engines these days because Junk Yards in USA don't have any good engines. No Salvage yard in the U.S will every test their engines. Engines come out from crashed cars so most engines have block cracked, mounts broken, oil pump smashed or brackets of Air Condition compressor, Alternator or Power steering pump is broken. Most people rely on visual inspection of the engine at junk yard before buying but 50% of the times visual inspection is totally deceptive. Even if one starts the vehicle to see if the engine runs, it is not enough because a four cylinder engine can have one or two cylinders which have bad compression which goes unnoticed even if the motor is running. Actual Compression test is required to find out health of the cylinders. One must keep in mind one logic i.e if you need an engine for 1994 Honda Civic, we must count average mileage driven in U.S is around 50,000 miles in a year so after 19 years the car may have 19 x 50,000=950,000 miles. Isn't this scary ? Average mileage driven in US is around 40,000-50,000 miles so anything over 3 years has 80% failure rate if bought from a junk yard in U.S. Why take this risk when we have better options, although these options are limited. The best option is to find a good vendor who has been established for years and is dedicated towards testing every mechanical aspect of the engines and sells Japanese Engines imported from Japan.

We all know Japan has restrictions that force Japanese people to drive just for five years and average mileage driven there is around 15,000 miles each year. Therefore these are considered as safest engines that offer better value for your buck. They last long and are very affordable. Each Japanese motor is fully tested, steam cleaned and professionally packed before shipment. Also they come with six months limited warranty, whereas tired, high mileage, low quality engines from Junk yards offer just 30 days warranty.

Japan is home for Acura, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Diahatsu, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Lexus, Infiniti, Subaru, Scion and Isuzu. Japanese transportation policies are made to protect the growth of its Auto manufacturers. In Japan vehicles are recycled early, approx within five years. This is the reason why the local demand for Brand New Vehicles is high. It is not in Japanese culture to buy used items. Therefore it is not required to have Auto Repair shops, Body shops and after-market parts because vehicles are recycled so early. Dealers do regular servicing according to the vehicle instruction manuals.

This is one of the main reasons why there are so many good working Japanese engines imported from Japan into United States. Japan exports Auto Engines, Transmissions and body parts to several countries around the world. Some Engines and transmissions have only 15,000-20,000 Kms only which is considered as almost brand new. We traveled to countries in South America like Chile, Peru, Bolivia etc in December 2012 to study the automotive market in Latin America. We witnessed a roll-on-roll-off ship full of 10,000 used vehicles at Iquique port of Chile, after further investigation we found out all these vehicles were imported from Japan. Chile is a trade free zone and people from neighboring countries like Boliva, Peru, Bolivia and Paraguay come to purchase all kinds of things. They don't have a sea port so Iquique port is the closest entry port for them. We saw a lot of importers selling Japanese Engines , Japanese Transmissions and used auto parts.

This is the reason why there are very few companies who can get a good assortment of parts & engines from Japan because most in-demand merchandise gets sold to these countries.

This is the truth. Japanese import engines are the best solution to buy a working engine for your vehicle. Low mileage + fully tested + 6 months warranty....how safe can it get !! It is very difficult to accomplish this task because finding the right quantity to supply the whole US market is very difficult. There are many unfavorable factors, for example US dollar Exchange rate to Japanese Yen has drastically fluctuating. Yen is becoming stronger by the day, making these Japanese Import motors more expensive. Our culture in the U.S and busy lifestyle, long commutes, rash driving etc increases the wear and tear on the motor.

Therefore guys, grab the engine that you find if it is JDM....so what if it is a bit $100-200 expensive because most of the models are hard to come by. You should just check how long the vendor has been in business. 99% people are not direct importers, they are just franchises. Some test and some don't. Once you have this squared away then you can decide whom to go with. Ships from Japan go directly to Houston & Miami so importers in places apart from these places will have higher prices or quite likely will have junk yard engines only. JDM quality speaks for itself. If you are a shop, it will take just one purchase for you to find out how good the vendor is.

Japanese Mini Trucks are cute little utility trucks that were allowed to be imported from 2004-2008 in United States. Their are over a 2 million of these trucks in United States and Canada. These trucks have little 3 cylinder 660 engines. 1990-97 models generally have carburetted engines and 1998 up have fuel injected engines. Most of these were sold in United States for farming, big warehouses, ranches, agriculture and off road purposes, they are also being used in the U.S in big car lots, salvage yards and schools. These trucks have a cabin, some have A/C but all have heaters and they look and feel great. All these trucks are 4wd and have manual transmission.

The problem is since these trucks are only available in Japan there are no parts available for these in United States. Engines & Transmissions are hard to find. The most famous models that were imported in United States were: DIAHATSU HIJET, SUZUKI CARRY, HONDA ACTY & SUBARU SAMBAR. These trucks have become very popular over the years but apparently EPA does not allow import of these trucks.

Subaru boxer engines are very famous. 90% of Subaru engines are horizontal 4 cylinder motors that offer great advantage of regular 4 cylinder engine. Let's look at some of the advantages:

Having cylinder heads on opposite sides keeps the vehicle stable by neutralizing the vibration in a very effective way. This results in smooth operation of the engine and the vehicle. Since Subaru motors never had balance shaft to reduce vibration on the engine effectively, this horizontal setup helps in reducing the vibration & stabalizing the vehicle better than other engines.

( Variable valve timing ) like in Toyota. Average market price of 2000-2005 model EJ25 SOHC engines in the market at salvage yards is around$1600 and for 2006 up engines is around $2000 and above. There is a big shortage of Subaru Motors in the US market.

JDM Subaru engines have proved to live up to the test. Due to strict transportation laws and conducive circumstances in japan, these engines that come from Japanese Domestic market have really low mileage and give good value for money.

We recommend buying low mileage JDM Subaru Motors as they last long, even if it costs marginally higher.

EJ25 DOHC :

We are very proud of our stock of Subaru Outback & Forester engines. Here is some basic information about EJ25 DOHC & SOHC engine.

EJ25 DOHC for 1997-2000 engine achieves 165 hp at 5600 rpm while the 1996 model achieves 155hp at 5600 rpm. Other specs are :

BORE: 99.5MM

STROKE: 79.0 MM

COMPRESSION RATE: 9.5:1 - 10.0 : 1 Naturally Aspirated & 8.0 : 1- 9.5 :1 for Turbo motor.

Fuel Delivery: multip point fuel injected.

The Dohc motor also fits Subaru Impreza.

Most Subaru EJ25 Dohc motors we sell have reconditioned Cylinder heads with new valves, valve seals, valve guides / valve stem seals to ensure better performance. We do this because Subaru Heads had a problem with leaking heads.

EJ25 SOHC:

Toyota 2AZ FE is a very popular Toyota engine that fits Toyota Camry, Solara, Rav4, Scion Tc, Scion Xb, Toyota Matrix, Toyota Highlander and Pontiac Vibe.

There is so much misleading information on the internet but the main reason of failure of this engine is the aftermath of poor block design where the threads for head bolts strip that leads to symtoms of overheating due to leaking coolant and loose head bolts. Toyota Camry is a famous 4 door Sedan in United States. Although Camry wasn't so popular at home in Japan but it was a big hit in United States. Camry is the best middle class car in USA. This is the reason why Toyota Camry Engines in United States is getting harder to find.

Toyota made 5SFE 2.2 ltr 4 cylinder engine for US version of Camrys & 3SFE for Japanese equivalent Toyota Vista although both engines were same with minor differences in hp.

Toyota made V6 engine for Camry what was same 1MZ all over the world. This is the same engine that fits Lexus ES300, Toyota Solara, Toyota Sienna & also Lexus RX300

Toyota 3RZ engine was first introduced by Toyota in 1995 and came in Toyota trucks & vans till 2004. 1995 & 1996 model was the distributor kind and 1997 up were with coil pack.

It came in Toyota Tacoma from 1995-2004, Toyota T100 from 1994-1998, Toyota 4Runner from 1996-2000. In Japan it came in Toyota Granvia from 1995-2002, Toyota Hilux & Toyota Hiace van from 1995-2004. This engine generally had sludge build up problem, that is what most people complain of on forums. This is getting very difficult to find. North American market demanded a larger Camry so since 1991 Camry are larger and broader.

V10 TOYOTA CAMRY 1982-1986: had Diesel IC & 2C ENGINE & GASOLINE 1S ENGINE.

V20 TOYOTA CAMRY FROM 1986-1990: had 1S , 3SFE 4 CYL GASOLINE ENGINE & 1VZ V6 engine for the first time but in US version Camry had 2VZ ENGINE compared to Japanese 2.0 ltr 1VZ V6 engine.

V30 TOYOTA CAMRY 1990-1994 MODEL: also known as Toyota Vista in Japan had 1S, 3SFE, 5SFE 4 cylinder engines & 1VZ & 3VZ V6 ENGINES. USA & Australia received a widened version of this Camry.

V40 TOYOTA CAMRY ENGINES FROM 1994-1998: had 3SFE & 5SFE ENGINES. Japanese version also had 1.8 ltr 4SFE ENGINE. Japanese & Australian version also had a 2.2 ltr TURBO DIESEL engine known as TOYOTA 3C-TURBO ENGINE.

XV20 TOYOTA CAMRY 1996-2001 had 3SFE, 5SFE 4 Cylinder engines & V6 1MZ non VVTi engines. This is also called as Toyota Vienta & Diahatsu Altis in some countries.

XV30 TOYOTA CAMRY 2001-2006: Toyota dropped most station wagons from 2001 and replaced it with Toyota Highlander for these years. In USA Toyota also had a similar looking Toyota Camry Solara. In USA all 2001 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder engines were 2AZ FE & V6 had 1MZ VVTI engines.

XV40 TOYOTA CAMRY 2006-2011: From 2006 the US version & Japanese versions were totally different, although they had similar 4 cylinder 2AZ FE engines & V6 1MZ VVTI engines. Both Japan & US also had 2AZ FE HYBRID engine which was same as Toyota Highlander. V6 engines for this Toyota Camry was 1MZ VVTI.

If you look at the sales figures of Toyota Camry in USA, each year Toyota has seen growth in sales of Camry. Toyota Camry is the household name in USA. D15B: Honda D15B engine is a Japanese replacement for USDM 1.6 ltr engine for Honda Civic for year 1990 to 2000. This Honda D15B is found in Honda Civic Ferio EG8, Honda Del Sol, Honda Capa GA4 and Honda Civic EK3 in Japan. Honda D15B engine for 1990 to 1995 Civic has oil dip stick by the exahust manifold and D15B for 1996 to 2000 model has dip stick by the oil pump. D15B non vtec fits LX and DX grade of USDM Civic whereas D15B Vtec fits EX grade of Civic.

D16A: Honda D16A non vtec and Vtec engine is a direct replacement for USDM 1.6 ltr engine for Honda Civic 1990 to 2000.

D17A: Honda D17A is found in 2001 to 2005 Honda Civic. USDM versions are Vtec and non Vtec but Japanese D17A had Vtec version only. D17A1 ( Non-Vtec) is found in LX and DX Honda Civic whereas D17A2 ( Vtec ) is found in EX versions of Civic. D17A1 has compression ratio of 9.5:1 wheras D17A2 has 9.9:1. Torque of D17A1 is 110 lb.ft at 4500 rpm whereas torque on D17A2 is 114 lb.ft at 4800 rpm.

R18A: This engine is found in 2006 to 2015 USDM Honda Civic. This has Compression ratio of 10.5:1.

F22B: This is an S.O.H.C engine found in 1994 to 1997 USDM Honda Accord 1994-1997 Accord and F22B6 is found in 1995 to 1997 Honda Odyssey.

F23A: This also an S.O.H.C 16 Valve engine found in 1998 to 2002 Honda Accord LX, EX and SE versions and Acura 2.3 CL. 1998 to 2002 Honda Accord USDM Version has F23A1 which is similar to JDM F23A engine whereas ULEV version of Hona Accord uses F23A4 engine. F23A4 is similar to F23A1 with ULEV being the only distinction which reduces the horse power to 148hp ( 108 KW) with maximum torque of 150lb.ft ( 203 nm)

J35A: There many versions of J35A engines in Japan. Since USDM codes are different we match them with appropriate JDM equivalent engine. Here is list of various J35A versions found in USDM Honda vehicles:

Some have Vtec solenoid by the oil filter near oil pressure test and some will have towards the back of the cylinder head. If the vtec solenoid is on the cylinder head then they can't be swapped, which means left side head will have to go on left side.

We offer Rebuilt J35A4, J35A5, J35A6, J35A7, J35Z1, J35A9 & J35Z4 engines because Japanese J35A engines imported from Japan are different.

We ship these engines as a long block ( cylinder block and cylinder heads) Our rebuilt engines don't have timing components, oil pump, water pump, accessories like alternator, power-steering pump, AC compressor, intake & exhaust manifold.

Our selling price for these rebuilt engines is close to the price of a used engine for this reason we don't include tune up components like timing kit, oil pump, water pump, front / rear main seals etc but we get help our customer buy these components for a competitive price from our auto-parts vendor at rates which are about 30% lower than the market price. These tune up components shouldn't cost more than $200-300. Accessories like oil pump, oil pan, intake & exhaust manifolds etc can be transferred from your old engine.
